Autism Diagnostic Assessments
Comprehensive assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (children 6-18 years old).
Pediatric Assessment and Physical Exam: A detailed evaluation of your child's medical history and a physical examination to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may affect development and behaviour.
2. Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R): A structured interview conducted with parents or caregivers to gather in-depth information about the child’s early development, communication, social interactions, and behaviour.
3. Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS): A standardized assessment that involves observing the child’s communication, social interaction, and play or imaginative use of materials.
4. Full Diagnostic Report: Based on the assessments and observations, with a comprehensive diagnostic report. This report will include detailed findings, a diagnosis (if applicable), and recommendations for intervention and support. This report meets the requirements for the diagnosis of ASD in the province of British Columbia and the forms required to access ministry funding will also be provided.
Katharine Smart Dr.
Dr. Katharine Smart, MD, FRCPC Pediatrician
My client focus includes children and youth (ages 6 - 18) and their families and my areas of focus include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, developmental concerns, learning differences, emotional regulation, and supporting families navigating diagnostic and funding pathways. Families often struggle to understand their child’s differences in communication, social interaction, or behaviour. The process of seeking an autism assessment can feel overwhelming—parents may not know where to start, how to access services, or what the diagnosis might mean for their child’s future. I offer comprehensive, family-centered autism assessments that combine evidence-based tools such as the ADOS-2 and ADI-R with compassionate clinical expertise. My approach is grounded in clear communication, collaboration, and respect for each child’s individuality. I guide families through the entire diagnostic journey—from initial concerns to diagnosis and next steps—ensuring they understand the process and feel supported throughout. Families leave the assessment process feeling informed, validated, and equipped with a clear understanding of their child’s profile and needs. My goal is for every family to walk away with a sense of direction and confidence, knowing how to access the right supports, resources, and interventions to help their child thrive. I am a pediatrician with over 20 years of experience working with children and families. I am the founder of Lynx Health Pediatrics in the Yukon and provide private autism assessments for families across British Columbia. My practice is rooted in compassionate, family-centered care and evidence-based medicine. I utilize gold-standard diagnostic tools, including the ADOS-2 and ADI-R, and my assessments integrate developmental history, behavioural observation, and DSM-5-TR criteria. I am a Past President of the Canadian Medical Association, a McMaster National Health Fellow, and was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women. My clinical and advocacy work is dedicated to improving access to high-quality, equitable care for children and families.A little bit about me! Outside of my clinical work, I’m passionate about advocating for children’s health and improving healthcare systems across Canada. I also love spending time outdoors in the Yukon and Okanagan with my family, skiing, hiking, and enjoying the quiet of nature—it’s where I find my sense of ease and perspective.
My favourite quotation: “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well”. –Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Lisa Ann Butcher MACP, RCC #16843, CCC, BPEH, RT
Lisa A. Butcher, MACP, RCC, CCC, BPEH, RT Founder and CEO, Three Sisters Counselling Registered Clinical Counsellor #16843
My client focus includes treating First Responders, Physicians, RNs, RTs, Adults, Couples and Teens. I have a professional subspecialty in counselling First Responders and their families and am a former First Responder for 18 years in both Ontario and BC. People struggle to reconcile how things are with how they had hoped they would be. I believe this contributes to people feeling stuck. They find themselves caught between what they wanted their life to look like and what it does look like and they aren’t sure what to do about it. I tend to be a solution-focused counsellor who strives to help people re-define their experiences in life. It is definitely important to understand why we feel the way we do, but it is equally important to understand what keeps us from being able to move through those feelings. I enjoy working with people to help them re-define what it means to be successful, happy, and capable. I teach people how to utilize what they have, to work towards what they want. The ultimate goal of my work with clients is to give them tools to empower them to be able to make impactful changes in their own lives. This empowerment comes from within as I teach them to have self-compassion, the patience to persevere, and the foundational blocks of resilience. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and hold a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education from the University of Toronto, a post-graduate degree in Applied Health Science with a specialty in Respiratory Therapy from the Michener Institute of Applied Health Science in Toronto, and a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I have two decades of experience working with clients and their families in supporting their mental and physical health. In 2019 I founded Three Sisters Counselling, which is a multi-disciplinary mental health clinic that now operates in Vancouver and Kelowna BC. I am a frequent guest speaker on the topic of Mental Health in the workplace and have presented over 250 talks to private and public corporations and institutions in North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. My areas of focus include First Responder and frontline trauma, anxiety, depression, Post-traumatic stress, Relationship issues, Communication issues, Parenting, Fertility, Perinatal and Post-Partum struggles, Return to Work support, Chronic Pain, and more.Therapeutic Modalities: I am formally trained in CBT, EMDR, and DBT. I also draw from aspects of narrative therapy, mindfulness CBT, attachment theory, and guided imagery in my practice.
A little bit about me! I am an extrovert who is profoundly interested in knowing who people are and how their experiences have shaped them. I am a mother of three girls and they are the core of who I am and everything I do. I enjoy the smell of ocean air, downhill skiing, travelling, and spending time with the love of my life and our extended family on both coasts of Canada.
Favourite Quotation: “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, nor did I wish to practice resignation. I wanted to live deep, cut a broad swath, and drive life into a corner” –Henry David Thoreau
